Carson 26, Trump 22!

CBS news is reporting that “Ben Carson has surpassed Donald Trump and now narrowly leads the Republican field in the race for the nomination in the latest national CBS News/New York Times Poll.

Twenty-six percent of Republican primary voters back Carson, giving him a four-point edge over Trump (22 percent). Support for Carson has quadrupled since August.

The rest of the Republican presidential candidates lag far behind in single digits. Marco Rubio is now in third place (eight percent), followed by Jeb Bush (seven percent) and Carly Fiorina (seven percent). All other candidates are at four percent or lower.”

Facebook will reap huge profits from the 2016 Election

Business Insider is reporting that the “amount of ad money spent digitally for the 2016 federal elections is going to quadruple from the 2012 elections, from $145 million to $607 million. For all elections, including the state and local level, they expect $1.07 billion will go to digital ads.

“Google was the digital ad spend leader during the Obama-Romney race, but the analysts say that Facebook is poised to overtake the search giant.”

How the Iowa Caucuses Came to Be

Quote

“The one-sentence history of the Iowa caucuses goes like this: It’s all Jimmy Carter’s fault.

The unknown Southern governor came to Iowa, over-performed in the 1976 caucuses, garnered national attention and went on to win the presidency, thereby cementing Iowa’s place at the front of the nominating process.

That’s not wrong, but it’s not the full story.” (Des Moines Register)

Joe Biden?!

From the AP:

WASHINGTON (AP) — Joe Biden is sending out an unmistakable “forget-me-not” plea for 2016, brushing past signs of a Hillary Rodham Clinton resurgence with fresh and direct suggestions he could be on the verge of entering the presidential race.

The vice president’s political team broke its months-long silence on the subject with a letter circulated by one of Biden’s closest friends and top advisers. In the letter, though Biden is still officially undecided, former Sen. Ted Kaufman describes a “campaign from the heart” that Biden would wage and says a decision isn’t far off.

Welcome to Civics in Action!

Welcome to KidUnity’s Iowa Presidential Caucuses Workshop 2016. This course will offer an eye opening opportunity for sixth graders to participate in the 2016 election process as student journalists. We are pleased to be partnering with Carlthorp School and an outside team of media, political, and academic advisers to create an impactful and memorable experience.

The Iowa caucuses present a fantastic opportunity for teaching presidential politics because observers – even youth who are not eligible to vote – may attend these “gatherings of neighbors” and experience politics in action. As the entire nation focuses on Iowa, KidUnity students will be there, standing shoulder to shoulder with Iowans, presidential candidates, political operatives and campaign staff, and members of the local and national media. As active agents in this exciting media and political circus, they will file stories, write press releases and social media updates, and produce short news videos. Most importantly, they will learn the significance of civic engagement, acquire sharp investigative skills, and enjoy an empowering and fun team building experience during their final months at Carlthorp School.
